I index the significance of people or events in order to identify real threats in time and prevent unnecessary casualties. And every time, I wonder how many events and connections you can lose sight of, no matter how hard you try.
–The Stranger explaining his motive.
Who.. is he?... He can't be here. It conflicts with the laws of nature.
–Shadow's Descendant clueless on how the player appeared in the world.

The evil half of Shadow's Descendant, also known as the Stranger, the Master, the Master of Worlds, the real Shadow's Descendant, or simply the Descendant, is the main antagonist of Shadow Fight 3. He is a researcher and a time traveler who travelled to the past (and possibly, to other worlds as well) to research the course of world history and measure the historical importance index of some influential figures. Shadow's Descendant is one of the two halves of the true child of Shadow and May, and the one that made the Descendant as his copies using time travel. His method of conducting his research is to explore the significance of said people in the line of historical events. The Descendant's ultimate goal is to open the Gates of Shadows in the real world.

Storyline[]

The Stranger once travelled to a distant past and arrived at the Crypt, through May's grave, which is a time-traveling portal. Unfortunately for him, Bolo was also there and the Stranger ended up getting detained by him. The Stranger admitted coming from the future and revealed some information regarding the Shadow Mind; it cannot be destroyed, but it can destroy this world and create a new one from scratch.

During the course of their adventure, the Descendant has the option to assist the Stranger in his research. Doing so will help him and in return, he will reward the Descendant accordingly as a sign of gratitude. When he arrives through a rift on a Temple, various clones of the Stranger are formed as a side effect of time travel and they aim to replace him. Helping him taking care of these clones allows the player to obtain the Time Traveler Set. The Descentdant can also participate in the Stranger's research regarding historical importance index. The tasks usually involve neutralizing a number of fighters, and the Stranger will run his research on them afterwards. The Descendant is then given a handsome reward. As he gets further in his research, the Stranger will reveal some crucial information regarding historical importance index to the player, which he manages to find thanks to the player's help.

Transformation[]

The Stranger plays a bigger role in the story after the Cleansing takes over and the whole world is destroyed. He somehow survives the catastrophe and makes it to the Core realm, where he speaks to the now clueless Shadow Mind regarding its situation and what can be done to undo all this. The Stranger also guides the Descendant's copy in June's Plane, who exists in the Plane due to the time travel performed by the Descendant earlier and replaces June as a result.

In Itu's Plane, the Stranger aids the player and explains that since the world was destroyed, even he and the player both are just a small probability of their existence.

After the Descendant's copy defeats their first memory to fight for their survival, the Stranger once again makes his appearance and explains that he is actually the real Shadow's Descendant and that the player is just a copy, having appeared due to one of his many time jumps, just like other copies. The Descendant tells his copy that they need longer need to fight as they completed their destiny; to make the real Descendant stronger than Shadow himself. He then gives his copy a suggestion - they may fight for their consciousness, though it would go out sooner or later and so would his own, if it were not for May.

The real Shadow's Descendant then takes his leave and meets the Real Itu at the Crypt where they first met. He explains that Itu had told Shadow exactly what he had wanted to, though the latter disagrees, claiming it to be Bolo's work. Both Itu and the Descendant fight against each other, where Itu defeats the Descendant. The Descendant instead states that this was the real Itu he remembers and that he wouldn't believe him if he told him about himself being his future self. He then explains that he wanted the Real Itu to find and decode the messages made by May's voice and how he wanted Shadow to find out about time travels and Shadow Mind's power, which is why he made Itu believe he forcefully took the information from him.

Explaining that the Real Itu and his copies as well as the Shadow Mind were his pawns, the Descendant then states that while there is no Shadow's Descendant yet, his copies have made him much stronger than Shadow and he flees.

As a result of his time travels and his copies, the Descendant's Historical Importance Index has risen to the point he has now become the Master of Worlds, conquering the world in every timeline.

In Marcus's Plane, the Descendant, who is now the Master of Worlds was responsible for transforming Lieutenant Siegfried and his Liquidator Squad into Shadow Beasts. He orders them to attack in order to further reinforce his plans. He starts to create various calamities in the Legion and raises the dead from their graves which causes turmoil within the Shadow Legion. The King of the Legion himself has been brought back from the dead by the Master according to an ancient deal they struck and is forced to stop the party from intervening. The King explains that the Master is trying to find his way back to his homeworld, the Shadow World by opening the Gates of Shadows in all planes.

Finale: The Gates of Shadows[]

In the Epilogue, Shadow died instead of May. May is seen mourning over a stone depicting Shadow, when she is approached by her son, Shadow's Descendant. He mocks May for talking to a piece of stone and says that Shadow did nothing for her and asks her to lead his troops. May says that he would have to kill her first and the Descendant fights May. The Descendant defeats his mother using his special abilities, but spares her life. May comments that Stranger has no guts to kill her and warns him that the Gates will kill him, but he refuses to heed her words and leaves her.

After the Hero tested Shadow's Armorwalker, the party proceeds to the Gates where Shadow's Descendant was waiting for them. He was surprised to see the Hero and could not believe that it violates the laws of nature, but May says that miracles do not obey the laws of nature. Nonetheless, Shadow's Descendant changes the subject and tells them that they are late anyway as the Gates are about to open. The final battle begins between our Hero and Shadow's Descendant. The Hero initially fights the Descendant while he is flying in air, using the armorwalker. Shadow's Descendant attacks from air using shadow bots, beam and meteors. Shadow's Descendant is beaten down and he comes to the ground. He asks the Hero and May to leave while they still can but the Hero rejects. Shadow Mind tries to escape but is captured by the Descendant and is transformed into a katana.

After a long, hard and exhausting battle, the Shadow's Descendant is finally defeated and falls to the ground, with the mask broken rendering half of his face shown. Even the top conical part of his mask is broken. Furious, the Descendant slams his fists on the ground and absorbs the full energy of the Gates, embodying himself in pure shadow energy and shattering the Gates in the process. However, unable to endure such energy, his body starts to disintegrate.

Void Speaker's Adventure: Battle of Laws[]

The Stranger is revealed to have survived his demise at the Gates of Shadows as he appoints a new Destroyer of Epochs. The Demons have been entrusted to the Destroyer under the Stranger's command. After Mnemos faces the Destroyer, both he and the Demons come to the conclusion that the Master is alive. Mnemos does not believe it, but Lynx states that the Stranger is stronger than time and fate, and that the worlds of the Void are like an open book to him. He also states that he will get rid of the Collector.

Stranger's Identity[]

ItuStanceCh7

The time travel which had changes everything.

His identity being concealed is the main reason he is only known as the Stranger. There are a few clues thrown in throughout the story that hints at the Stranger's true identity.

  • Iolanda initially mistakes the player as Bolo, when they are dressed in time travel suit lent by the real Bolo. Said suit is the same one worn by the Stranger (as well as Bolo).
  • The real Bolo refers to the Stranger as his future self.
  • In the Chapter VII: Part I main quest, the Descendant traveled the time thrice to stop the Heralds giving the Accelerator prototype to Shadow. As the side effect, a clone crated and replaced someone in three different world. This time travel is the most reasonable to explaining the true identity of the Stranger.
  • A side quest in Chapter VII: Part II requires the player to fight abominations formed by a shadow rift. They are fearsome manifestations of the Arrows. The one representing Bolo (Arrow of Arrogance) is depicted as Indifferent Clone, a clone of the Stranger that can be fought in Side Effect event.
  • For some reason, the Divine Judge - one of the Stranger's research target - must not see him at all cost. Judges themselves are the first clan of the Heralds who carry out direct orders from the Void Room.
  • Mnemos, a Tracker and one of Stranger's research target, once wiped out the memories of half of the people inside the Dome, before returning them back. He did this to prove to Bolo that he was not bluffing, and the Dome master realized how he can make use of this technology. The Stranger was there when this wipeout occured; even if he only lost his memories for several hours, he describes that he felt like a helpless child and his life falling apart, a very scary feeling. Since then, he believes that one's personality consists of one's experience. And he does not even want to think about what would happen if Bolo lost his memories now.
  • In June's Plane, the titular character concludes that the Stranger is Bolo based on the way he speaks (like a scholar). The Stranger dismisses it, remarking that it is funny as only their suit is the same. Although this statement is only true in this plane (and other planes for that matter) and might not apply in the main world.
  • In Transformation: Itu's Plane Part 3, the Stranger revealed his identity as the real Shadow's Descendant, who is saved by May and the good half of himself is just one of his many billion copies. With the help of the Hero, the real Shadow's Descendant or Stranger has surpassed Shadow's power and plans to get rid of him.
  • In the Gates' Plane, Mnemos reveals that the one who is called Stranger or the real Shadow's Descendant is actually a mere shadow of the Hero who was corrupted by the Shadow World even before he was born. He says that the Stranger considers himself the successor of Titan. (as opposed to shadow) Mnemos also reveals that the Stranger thinks the Shadow World is his homeland and that he plans to open the Gates of Shadows in order to bring back his homeworld.

Note that the Stranger always refers to anyone he talks about in third-person view, including those who are suspected as him.

Gameplay[]

The Stranger is fought as an enemy in Chapter VI during the flashback in Shadow Mind's story. The players will fight as a younger Bolo.

Later, he can be found at the Training Area of Chapter VII, as a sparring partner. He also makes his appearance in Transformation, where he challenges the Descendant's copies into a friendly sparring to test if they are prepared for the harsh planes they are in, for they are considered a foreign object and their presence is basically rejected there. Stranger will explain the concept of Stability to these copies during the sparring. Unlike when he fought a young Bolo, the Stranger does not have his Electromines equipped during the sparrings in both Chapter VII Training and Transformation.

The Fight of Miracle[]

Whatever, You're late anyway. The gates are about to open.
–The descendant before fighting his counterpart

Shadow's Descendant is fought as the main boss of Epilogue, and the final boss of Shadow Fight 3. Fights with him contains unique features, as well as different phases.

First Phase - Legacy[]

In this phase, the Descendant is fought using Shadow's Armorwalker. Descendant can freely levitate around the battlefield, and he fights barehanded. Descendant can summon meteors, shadow beams and shadow bots to attack the player. He can defend himself with force fields and barricades made of shadow energy.

When the Descendant is defeated, he asks the player to get out of his way, and enslaves Shadow mind into his Katana.

Second Phase - World Slicer[]

This phase consists of 2 rounds. Descendant now fights using his Katana, World Slicer. He uses modified a modified version of the Stranger set bonus to aid him in this fight. Descendant's shadow bar fills automatically, and he can use the following special attacks:

  • World Onslaught - Once he reaches a full shadow bar, Stranger lowers himself and charges the katana's energy. After 2 seconds, he dashes horizontally at extreme speed which takes 80% of the player's HP away if it hits, then returns to his original position. Stranger is in an immovable state during this time, but he can still take damage by any source. He will not use this ability until the empowerment from Unwavering Spirit is burnt out.
  • Destiny Attack - Stranger uses Blink and teleports himself behind the player. Then, he encases himself in shadow energy for the next 5 seconds, making it impossible to recoil him. His next katana attack cannot be blocked, is a guaranteed critical hit and deals 200% damage. After Stranger uses Blink, he will always attempt to hit the player with the Katana heavy slash (or the handle nudge if he happened to be too close), and he will dash forward repeatedly to catch up to the player should they attempt to run away. Stranger will exit the immovable state immediately should he successfully land his empowered attack. It has 8-second cooldown after the effect wears out.

When he gets defeated in the first round, Shadow's Descendant teleports him and the player to the Shadow Realm by slicing the world.

In the second round of this phase, the Descendant cannot use his previous special attacks. He now has the following abilities instead:

  • Omnipotent - Shadow's Descendant can summon several eruptions, meteors, and a long beam of shadow energy to attack the player.
  • Infinite Power - When his health is reduced by half, he summons the Shadow Mind who performs his Infinite Power special move. However, the descendant can also take damage if hit by Shadow Mind's attacks.

After the Descendant is, once again defeated in this round, Shadow Mind teleports the Descendant and the player back to the Gates of Shadows.

Third Phase - Desperation[]

This phase also has 2 rounds where Shadow's Descendant fights barehanded but gaining more abilities.

In the first round, Shadow's Descendant starts with a full health bar (while also partially healing the player) and uses two new special abilities:

  • Channeling the Gates - Absorbs shadow energy from the Gates to fill his shadow bar. He is invulnerable to attacks while doing this.
  • Final Deactivation - Charges up briefly before summoning a beam of shadow energy to attack the player. This attack deals very high damage and can be blocked using Moira's amulet or dodged by moving around the Descendant.

When Stranger is defeated in this round, he will heal a small portion of his health (and the player's). After he uses blink, he produces a shockwave that disarms the player in the process. The player will have to defeat the Descendant with no weapon, ranged weapons, and shadow abilities.

After an exhausting fight, the Descendant is defeated yet again, The final cutscene plays. The severely weakened Descendant was erased while trying to open the Gates. The Shadow Gates are destroyed, along with the world which will be created anew.
