Ironclad has nothing left to lose. A wrongly convicted felon, he has no right to carry a weapon. But that's not a problem for a master of hand-to hand combat. He's participating in a tournament to justify himself... and maybe break a couple of jaws while he's at it. This warrior in incredibly stubborn; the more attacks he gets, the stronger his defense becomes. Nothing can stop the Ironclad!

Ironclad is one of the heroes in Shadow Fight 4: Arena. A proud and stubborn Legionnaire forbidden to use weapons of any sort, Ironclad instead uses hand-to-hand combat to defeat his enemies. With heavy armor, steel gauntlets and incredible durability, Ironclad will knock out the competition and dominate the Arena.

Move list[]

Attacks
Move Controls Description
Ironclad Slashes Attack
Fist multiple x2 Ironclad's basic attacks. It is an effective close range punch with decent hit frames, but it only hits the middle region effectively.
Ironclad Heavy Attack
Fist holding Ironclad's heavy attack. Covers a good distance; a good move to use Adrenaline with. Heavily based on the Dynastian Heavy Punch.
Ironclad Upper Attack
Move up + Fist Ironclad's upper attack, which covers a wide range radius. The unbreakable state comes out right before the attack lands, useful to pair with the Knockout talent.
Ironclad Low Attack
Move down + Fist Ironclad's low attack. It is a close range attack which has decent hit frames. While it is slower than the basic punches, it covers the lower part of the hitboxes, which makes it good for chaining after the uppercut as well as after a throw.
Ironclad Spinning Attack
Move left + Fist multiple x3 Ironclad's spinning attack. A modified version of the Legion spinning attack, with an added windup at the start. Incredibly tricky due to the attack stepping back and its good unbreakable period.
Ironclad Stampede
Move right (Player direction) + Foot x3 Ironclad's special kick, Stampede. Deals fairly good damage, but will result in him being grabbed if blocked. Best used when the opponent is knocked down in a corner.
Ironclad Heavy Kick
Foot Hold Ironclad's fall kick. Will cause Ironclad to fall to the ground, but will not trigger Will Suppression. This is an excellent move to combo into after an Adrenaline-fueled punch. Safe on block even on corners as the mid-air collision will only push Ironclad further away from the enemy, preventing them from grabbing him. By holding right or left on the d-pad, the player can control which direction Ironclad will roll after the move.

Shadow Abilities
Preview Name Controls Icon Description
Ironclad Shadow Ram
Shadow Charge Move right (Player direction) + Ability SHADOW STRONG ARMOR Quickly boosts forward and rams the opponent back with a shoulder charge. This attack is extremely fast, hard to interrupt, and covers nearly the entire arena.
Ironclad Shadow Armor
Legionary Jump Move down (Player direction) + Ability SHADOW THUD Leaps forward and smashes the ground with both feet, causing a small earthquake and knocking down the opponent in a short-range shockwave. The unbreakable state is activated before Ironclad lands on the ground. This move is shared along with Kate when choosing Legionary Jump as her third talent.

Strategy[]

In close combat, this hero has no equal. If you feel your opponent is to far away, use your shadow abilities! They'll help you to close the distance quickly. Also, the Ironclad doesn't have a ranged attack, but he doesn't react to his opponent's!

Strengths[]

A heavyweight fighting champion and a tough nut to crack, Ironclad is a prime example of Legion toughness. Though he may only use his fists, Ironclad's moves are fast and hard-hitting, with a good period of Unbreakable on most of his moveset. As such, Ironclad is best used aggressively, with a fast-thinking head that can pressure the opponent into making punishable moves. While Ironclad has no ranged attack, thanks to his perk, Non-Stop, he is immune to flinching from ranged attacks as well as some debuffs caused by them. For this reason, characters that have a playstyle emphasis on ranged attacks, like Yukka, Shang, Sarge, or Hong-Joo will find that their attacks will leave them even more vulnerable against Ironclad. Lastly, his signature perk, Stubborn as a Mule, gives Ironclad Stubborness Charges with each attack against him that increase his physical defense. Characters that have high combo attacks like Shang, Hong-Joo, and Jet will find that they will be giving Ironclad more Stubborness Charges than they can keep up with. He is Defensive character.

Weaknesses[]

Ironclad's moves are generally short-ranged, and it takes a bit of time for their Unbreakable period to kick in. Characters with very fast attacks and/or good range can easily intercept Ironclad; examples being Kibo and Ling, with their fast-striking katanas. Without High Pain Threshold, Ironclad is also highly vulnerable to Shadow moves, which ignore his Stubbornness. Ironically, quite a few of the same characters who give him many Charges can also power through his defenses. Shang, Fireguard, and Jet are all fighters that can assault Ironclad with a barrage of shadow moves

While Non-Stop does make Ironclad highly resistant to ranged attacks, not all fighters' ranged attacks are completely useless against him. Helga, with Smite Shot, will still strike Ironclad with a Smite - an especially effective advantage if Repentance is active. With Jack Bulwark's Heated Gun, his ranged attack will still do significant damage to Ironclad. Yukka, when equipped with either Shade's Revenge or Teamwork, can knock Ironclad out of his feet as the Critical Hit inflicted by Shade can bypass the unbreakable state supposedly activated by Non-Stop. Azuma, with his Consequence Management ability can also knock him down if Ironclad is hit with a ranged attack whilst in Shadow Form, as the attack also becomes Critical Hit, which again bypasses unbreakable states. You can decrease and reduce the risk of this weakness by choosing the Persistence talent on level 2.

Eternal Adrenaline[]

Due to how Adrenaline works, normally you can only gain four charges of Adrenaline without removing them. Using both Shadow Respite and Eternal Stubborness will allow Ironclad to constantly gain Adrenaline charges after building up lots of Stubbornness. This playstyle is incredibly effective against characters with a high number of attacks or combo-based characters, mostly Dynastians and Heralds.

Trivia[]

  • As revealed in dialogue in Legion in Flames Chapter I if Sarge is chosen or Chapter II if Ironclad is chosen, Ironclad's real name is Artemis Kurkaiser. Their dialogue also implies that Sarge is the one who convicted Ironclad.
    • Ironclad is named after ironclad warships, the first armored warships in history. His real name, Artemis, comes from the Greek goddess of the same name, who is most known as the goddess of the hunt and the moon.
    • His second name, Kurkaiser, is likely formed from the words Kur, the name of the ancient Mesopotamian Underworld in Sumerian mythology as well as the word referring to the Zagros mountain range, and Kaiser, the German word for "Emperor".
  • Ironclad is one of the two characters who fight bare-handed. The other being the Emperor in his human form. They are also the only characters to have no Special Attacks as the barehanded style lacks it.
  • Ironclad is one of the four characters who do not have ranged weapons, the other three being Itu, Cobra and June.
  • Ironclad's heavy punch shares a similarity with Dynasty heavy punch from Shadow Fight 3, but with Unbreakable State when he is in the air and is about to throw the punch due to his heavy armor.
  • He is the first opponent that new players will encounter in the game (tutorial fight).
  • Ironclad is fought as the boss in Marcus's Plane. He utilizes same abilities, stances and even can taunt the player if they are knocked down.
  • The weird sentence line from the bully in white Ironclad is encoded from "Vigenere Cipher" with the key being "Ironclad". Decoding the sentence with the Ironclad key will provide players the sentence's true meaning: "THEIR EYES, FOREVER WATCHING, FOREVER SILENT."
